Blur albums

I like Leisure. It doesn’t quite go with the following Blur records but it fits fine with the Stone Roses, Charlatans etc. around at the time, and I happily still listen to those as well.

Modern Life Is Rubbish is good for the first 8 tracks but after that the songs drag on. I agree with Secret Rivals’ comment: there’s a couple of songs verging on greatness (Star Shaped, Blue Jeans) but just short of the perfection they reached on Parklife.

Parklife always has been the best Blur album for me. It’s got at least five of my favourite Blur songs on it (Tracy Jacks, End of a Century, Badhead, To The End, This Is A Low), it works as a whole, I get to track 10 or 11 and think the album’s nearly finished but it’s got legs all the way to track 16.

I like The Great Escape. It’s quintessential Britpop-era-Blur, which is exactly what I wanted – it would have been awful if they went experimental at that time. There’s enough good songs on it even if it does sound a bit triumphant and lacking some of the feeling of Parklife.

They did a good job with Blur, I like most of it.

13′s not so easy to listen to though. It feels like it’s never going to end. Although the last track on it’s good if you stick with it! Reminds me a bit of Radiohead, whom I also lost interest in with their newer stuff.

Anyone up for discussing Shed Seven albums?
